In recent years, more and more people have started thinking about how to ensure the safety of their home and family in emergency situations. Whether the cause is a natural disaster or a critical security threat – a well-planned shelter can provide peace of mind and protection. But what is the difference between a shelter, a bomb shelter and a bomb bunker and why should you choose a solution produced and installed in Estonia?
Revonia’s solutions have been developed in cooperation with the Estonian Defence League, who have contributed to enhancing the safety and practicality of the structures. In addition, we work closely with the Finnish company Temet, which supplies essential equipment for our shelters and provides guidance regarding compliance with requirements and standards. Revonia’s facilities have received the National Defence Cornerstone Award and have been demonstrated both at the Ussisõnad exercise and at the Central Training Area, where they have successfully undergone real endurance tests.
Internationally, similar solutions are common in countries such as Finland, Germany and Switzerland, where many shelters are either mandatory or typically integrated into private yards. In peacetime, they are used as cellars, saunas or storage rooms – combining safety with everyday practicality. More information about our international experience can be found here:
What is a shelter, bomb shelter and bomb bunker?
- Safe shelter – a structure designed for short-term protection. Usually above ground and can be covered with soil, suitable mainly for compact locations. The location can be changed quickly. Designed to protect against bullets and shrapnel. Can be used daily as a cellar, storage room or even a sauna. A good example is the massive concrete bus stops introduced in several cities in Ukraine, which provide people with quick protection during bomb attacks. Such solutions combine everyday functionality with the necessary security in crisis situations.

- Bomb shelter – a structure designed for medium-term protection. Installed partially underground and can be used daily as a cellar or sauna. Can quickly be converted into a heated shelter when needed. Designed to protect against nearby explosions.

- Bomb bunker – a structure designed for long-term protection. Completely underground with a concealed entrance. Equipped with two entrances, batteries and air filters, offering maximum protection even against NBC (nuclear, biological, chemical) attacks.

Each solution is intended for a different level of threat and purpose, but the common denominators are safety, strength and long-term durability.
Revonia’s concrete shelters and bomb bunkers provide protection in times of crisis and practical use in times of peace. With over 10 years of experience and more than 2000 projects completed, we have developed solutions that combine security, energy efficiency and long lifespan.
